Jagiroad (Morigaon, Assam), November 7, 2025:
In a significant step towards building a Developed India by 2047, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman participated in the ‘Enterprise Assam – Viksit Bharat 2047’ dialogue with students, startups, and entrepreneurs at Jagiroad in Morigaon district. The programme, aimed at fostering innovation and entrepreneurship in the Northeast, also witnessed the presence of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

A Vision for Viksit Bharat

Addressing the gathering, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman highlighted Assam’s growing potential as a hub of technology, innovation, and industrial expansion. She described the new semiconductor assembly and testing facility being set up by Tata Electronics in Jagiroad as a “turning point for the economy of Assam and the entire Northeast region.”

“It’s not just about policy or finance,” Sitharaman remarked.
“True development happens when opportunities and facilitation bring investments to new and unconventional regions. Assam today stands at the threshold of becoming India’s next innovation centre.”

She urged students and young entrepreneurs to actively engage with institutions such as IIT Guwahati and other regional universities to translate research into marketable innovations, in alignment with India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.

Chief Minister’s Call for Local Entrepreneurship

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma lauded the central government’s continued focus on Northeast development and said that the state’s youth are now being connected to national and global opportunities.

He emphasised that initiatives like “Enterprise Assam” are more than events — they represent a movement to inspire self-reliance and local entrepreneurship.

“We are not only creating jobs; we are creating job creators,” CM Sarma said.
“With projects like the Jagiroad semiconductor plant, Assam is entering the league of states leading India’s high-tech future.”

Empowering Startups and Students

The dialogue provided a platform for students, innovators, and emerging entrepreneurs to interact directly with policymakers and industry experts. Discussions focused on startup incubation, seed funding, market access, and skill development.

Participants also shared local innovations and business ideas that could support sectors like agriculture, tourism, renewable energy, and digital services — sectors critical to Assam’s sustainable growth.

Sitharaman encouraged youth-led enterprises to take advantage of schemes such as:

  • Startup India Seed Fund Scheme (SISFS)
  • PMEGP (Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme)
  • Digital India innovation grants
  • North East Industrial Development Scheme (NEIDS)

Assam’s New Industrial Moment

The upcoming semiconductor plant at Jagiroad, one of the largest in the Northeast, has already started creating hundreds of local employment opportunities. Once operational, it is expected to attract ancillary industries, skill training institutes, and supply-chain networks — transforming Morigaon district into an industrial cluster.

Experts believe this facility could make Assam a strategic technology corridor connecting India’s eastern economy to Southeast Asia.

A Shared Goal: Viksit Bharat 2047

Both Sitharaman and Sarma underlined that the Viksit Bharat 2047 roadmap is not merely a policy vision but a citizen-driven mission where states like Assam can lead the way through innovation, entrepreneurship, and inclusive development.
